4.3  Situational awareness

In addition to visually observing their surroundings, pilots must also be aware of the situation they are in. Gaining situational awareness is a three-step process:

  1. Monitoring/observing: the pilot concentrates on the task at hand and avoids any kind of distraction;
  2. Anticipation: after evaluating the information, the pilot will take anticipatory actions. For example: the pilot encounters strong gusts of wind during the flight, which the pilot will anticipate to by landing the UAS.
